Meet the Green Champions Cohort 2026–2027

The Institute of Climate and Environment (ICE) at SIMAD University is pleased to announce the Green Champions Cohort of 2026–2027, welcoming a new generation of young leaders committed to advancing climate action and environmental sustainability in Somalia.

The Green Champions Program is ICE Institute’s student leadership and volunteer initiative designed to identify, develop, and empower students who are passionate about environmental protection, climate action, sustainability, and community service. Through training, mentorship, practical engagement, and peer learning, participants are equipped to translate environmental awareness into meaningful action.

Since its establishment, the programme has provided young people with opportunities to strengthen their knowledge, leadership skills, networks, and practical experience while contributing to climate and environmental initiatives led by ICE Institute.

The newly selected 2026–2027 Green Champions were chosen through a competitive selection process. Over the coming year, they will participate in capacity-building activities, awareness campaigns, research and knowledge initiatives, community engagement, and other practical opportunities that strengthen their ability to become effective advocates and leaders for sustainability.

The programme reflects ICE Institute’s wider commitment to building local capacities, supporting youth leadership, generating knowledge, and catalysing practical solutions for a more climate-resilient, greener, and sustainable Somalia.

As they begin their journey, the new Green Champions join a growing community of young people who believe that Somalia’s environmental future requires informed leadership, collaboration, innovation, and action.

Congratulations to the Green Champions Cohort of 2026–2027.
