Announcement: Climate Storytelling Workshop

Extreme climate events are becoming the norm in Somalia. In the past three decades, the country has faced many ecological crises. The natural environmental ecosystems in Somalia face significant challenges. The country has grappled with climate change, biodiversity loss, land degradation and weak environmental governance. on the other hand, there are climate entrepreneurs innovating homegrown innovations to fight against climate change in Somalia. Creative balanced narrative based realities on the ground is crucial for to empower and inspire people to take climate action at any scale possible. Therefore, the need for effective communication and action is greater than ever. The Institute of Climate and Environment is proud to present a unique opportunity for young individuals in Mogadishu who are passionate about environmental conservation and eager to make a difference: the Climate Storytelling Workshop.

Why Climate Storytelling?
Climate change is a complex issue that demands innovative approaches to engage, inform, and inspire change. Stories have an incredible power to cut through the complexity, conveying the urgency of the climate crisis while connecting people on a personal level. By sharing balanced and compelling narratives, we can amplify voices to inspire action, encourage sustainable behaviors, and celebrate the efforts of those who are leading the charge against climate change.

About the Workshop:
The Climate Storytelling Workshop is a hands-on, practical program designed to equip participants with the tools and skills needed to craft, create, and share impactful climate stories. This workshop is perfect for young activist, and storytellers who are passionate about environmental issues and believe in the power of storytelling as a force for climate action.

Objectives:
Participants of the workshop will:

  1. Gain a Comprehensive Understanding: Deepen their understanding of climate issues and their implications for Somalia.
  2. Learn Storytelling Techniques: Learn to create authentic and engaging narratives that resonate with diverse audiences.
  3. Foster Sustainable Behaviors: Explore ways to promote sustainable living and responsible resource management through storytelling.

Workshop Highlights:

  • Engaging sessions on climate science, communication strategies, and storytelling techniques.
  • Interactive activities and practical exercises to refine storytelling skills.
  • Guest speakers including climate experts, storytellers, and environmental advocates.

  1. A brief statement (100-150 words) expressing your interest in climate issues and storytelling.
  2. Sample of story you have done before(it can be any format, Blog, Vlog, Infographic, and Photo Essay)
