National Adaptation Plan (NAP) Framework
Somalia is facing significant challenges due to climate change and its associated variability. The country is highly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change, such as frequent and severe droughts and floods, which are compounding the existing fragility of the nation. In the absence of effective and well-coordinated response measures, these climate change effects are likely to worsen existing vulnerabilities and limit the livelihood options available to the population. This, in turn, can have detrimental consequences for stability and security within Somalia.
The primary objective of this National Adaptation Plan (NAP) Framework is to provide guidance and facilitate the advancement of Somalia’s NAP process. It aims to address the country’s medium- and long-term adaptation needs in a comprehensive and coordinated manner. By following this framework, which encompasses a clear vision, objectives, principles, and actionable next steps, Somalia intends to leverage the benefits of ongoing initiatives like the NAP Readiness Project and other adaptation efforts to enhance the nation’s resilience.
Furthermore, this framework seeks to align the NAP process with existing policies and strategies, including those related to peacebuilding, conflict resolution, and gender equality. It also aims to integrate relevant adaptation research into decision-making processes.
Overall, the implementation of this NAP Framework will be crucial in enabling Somalia to effectively respond to climate change impacts, mitigate vulnerabilities, and foster sustainable development in the face of a changing climate.
