MOU Signed Between the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change and SIMAD University

In a significant move towards fostering sustainable development and addressing climate challenges in Somalia, the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MOECC) of the Federal Government of Somalia and SIMAD University have officially entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).

The MOU, signed on November 21, 2023, establishes a collaborative framework between the two entities to work jointly on a range of initiatives aimed at preserving, protecting, and promoting a sustainable and greener Somalia. The agreement reflects the shared commitment of MOECC and SIMAD University to enhance the quality of life for Somali citizens through sustainable development.


The primary objectives of this collaboration include the exploration of innovative solutions to combat the challenges posed by climate change and environmental degradation. Both parties will focus on skill development, climate action, and community empowerment, recognizing the pivotal role of local communities, particularly youth and women, in the development of the country.


Under the MOU, MOECC and SIMAD University will collaborate on various fronts, including strategic and operational support in skills development, exchanging research and knowledge on climate change and sustainable development, and jointly creating programs aligned with their respective areas of expertise. The partnership also envisions collaborative projects and events to enhance the capacity of both entities in fulfilling their mandates.
